Our guest on Sree’s Sunday #NYTReadalong is Cauvery Madhavan, an author, journalist and blogger. Cauvery was born in India and moved to Ireland when she was 23-years-old. She is the author of “Paddy Indian,” “The Uncoupling” and “The Tainted.” Her latest book is “The Inheritance.”
Neil Parekh will be the guest host.
We will be live at 8:30am ET / 1:30pm GMT on Sunday morning on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram and our Digimentors website. If you miss the live show, you can always watch it later, on demand.
In addition to talking about her books, we’ll discuss what it’s like to be of Indian heritage in Ireland and the significance of Leo Varadkar, an Indian Irish politician who recently served as Ireland’s Taoiseach (head of government). One of the topics Cauvery is passionate about how different groups teach and tell their history. The Irish diaspora made sure everyone knew about The Great Potato Famine of the 1800s. India in the 60s, 70s and 80s did not do a good job teaching its own people their history. (They did an incredibly good job teaching science and math, but not history.)
Here's an article Cauvery wrote for The Irish Times about Leo Varadkar and Rishi Sunak in which she explored these themes of history and memory.
We’ll dig in on Sunday.
If we have time, we’ll also take a look at the Irish Times.
(Yes, we have a lot we want to cover.)
