Our guest on Sree’s Sunday #NYTReadalong is Melissa Ludtke, an author and journalist. Melissa was a reporter for Sports Illustrated in the 1970s and sued Major League Baseball so that female reporters could get access to locker rooms. Her new book, “Locker Room Talk: A Woman’s Struggle to Get Inside” recounts that landmark case.
We will be live at 8:30am ET / 1:30pm GMT on Sunday morning on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram and our Digimentors website. If you miss the live show, you can always watch it later, on demand.
In Ludtke v. Kuhn, Melissa Ludtke took on the commissioner of Major League Baseball, Bowie Kuhn, and demanded equal access for women so they could work alongside their male peers in Major League Baseball locker rooms. Even though she won the case, female reporters still have to deal with several issues around gender and equity in order to do their job.
