With Donald Trump’s conviction on all 34 counts, we couldn’t have a more perfect #NYTReadalong guest: Steven Herman, chief national correspondent for the Voice of America. From 2017 to 2021, Steve was the senior White House correspondent and subsequently VOA’s White House bureau chief.
His new book comes out June 4, “Behind the White House Curtain: A Senior Journalist’s Story of Covering the President—and Why it Matters.”
We will be live at 8:30am ET on Sunday morning on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram and our Digimentors website. If you miss the live show, you can always watch it later, on demand.
Learn more about him and subscribe to his Substack.
We'll also talk about Steve’s presence on social media (he was famously booted off Twitter by Elon Musk. He’s still on Twitter (for retweets) but is also on: BlueSky; Facebook; Forth; Instagram; LinkedIn; Mastodon; Spoutible and Threads.
Steve has also been a licensed amateur (ham) radio operator since his youth (FCC call sign W7VOA) and can be found on the shortwave bands chasing ‘DX.’
(This is Steve's second appearance on Sree's Sunday #NYTReadalong. His first appearance was on Facebook July 28, 2019, from his home.)
More from Steve’s Bio:
Steve spent more than a quarter of a century in Asia, including years of reporting from Tokyo and subsequently as a VOA correspondent and bureau chief in India, South Korea and Thailand. Steve also served in 2016 as VOA's senior diplomatic correspondent, based at the State Department and traveling to numerous countries with Secretary of State John Kerry.
During the Trump administration, Steve was the designated radio reporter on dozens of Air Force One domestic and international trips, including the 45th president's final flight to Florida. He continued as VOA’s White House bureau chief during the first eight months of the Biden administration.
