It’s been a while, but we’re back with another episode of the #NYTReadalong. Our guest is Dr. Xanthe Scharff, Cofounder and CEO of The Fuller Project, the global newsroom dedicated to groundbreaking reporting that catalyzes positive change for women. Neil Parekh will serve as guest host. (Please note that this week’s show will be live from 8:30am ET to 9:30am ET.)
Since they launched in 2015, The Fuller Project has influenced new legislation, helped end life-threatening practices, and led to large scale releases of public data. For example, their investigations have led to increased funding for maternal health care, helped rescue migrant domestic workers held against their will, prompted a major fashion brand to end abuse at their garment factory, introduced legislation to ban virginity testing, and fueled policy changes on the minimum wage for tipped workers.
Xanthe is the founder of two acclaimed nonprofit organizations and a gender expert. She launched The Fuller Project from Turkey while reporting in Istanbul and on the Syrian border. She has built the project to be the go-to source for exclusive, in-depth global reporting about women that would otherwise be untold. The journalism is relied on by decision-makers and published in renowned outlets, such as The New York Times and The Washington Post.
