Digimentors Zoom Tips
How to look and sound your best on Zoom
Tech Prep
Ideally, we will have the opportunity to test audio and video ahead of time. Sometimes, we run a Green Room before we go live. Please review these tips, particularly if we can’t meet before the event.
Video Tips
-
Keep the light in front of you. Avoid having a window or light behind you.
-
We don't recommend natural light.
-
Center yourself on the screen.
-
Webcam at eye-level (i.e. place several books under your laptop or monitor stand).
-
Leave space between the top of your head and the top of the screen and between your chin and the bottom of the screen
-
When speaking, please try to look at your webcam/lens as much as possible, rather than at your screen or at other speakers. It’s not an easy task as your instincts will make you want to make eye contact with others on the screen.
-
Looking at the webcam/lens will make it look like you’re making eye contact.
Audio Tips
-
Avoid picking up ambient noise and feedback; use wired headphones.
-
Bluetooth / AirPods are also acceptable particularly if you are using a mobile phone. Please make sure they are charged.
-
But AirPods are sometimes tricky. (Phone mics tend to pick up more extraneous noise than laptop / computer mics.)
-
Avoid extraneous movement on your end if your mic is not muted (e.g. typing, rustling papers, etc.)
